The University of Illinois Chapter of Uplifting Athletes held its annual Lift For Life event July 8 at Memorial Stadium, raising over $32,000 toward its mission of raising awareness and research dollars for rare diseases.
In the seventh Lift For Life at Illinois, the Fighting Illini football team continued its tradition of a team competition with squads going head-to-head in strongman events. In seven years of hosting Lift for Life, the Fighting Illini have raised over $125,000 for research to support the rare disease community, including a record $39,000 last year. Fans can still donate to the cause now at the Illinois Uplifting Athletes Fundraising Page.
About Uplifting Athletes
A nonprofit organization founded in 2007, Uplifting Athletes inspires the rare disease community with hope through the power of sport. A rare disease is one that affects fewer than 200,000 Americans and typically lacks financial incentive to make and market new treatments. With a network of university chapters run by current college football student-athletes that spans all major conferences, Uplifting Athletes has had an economic impact of more than $400 million on the rare disease community.
