PREVIEW

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois baseball team continues its nine-game homestand Tuesday when Valparaiso comes to Illinois Field. It is the fifth game of the homestand that Illinois has started 4-0 as part of a five-game winning streak.

Illinois (23-8, 9-3 Big Ten), who has been without leading hitter Bren Spillane for two games, swept Rutgers over the weekend to move to third place in the Big Ten. The Illini are hitting .279 as a team and slugging .467, the 16th-best mark in the nation.

Valparaiso (11-19, 2-4 Missouri Valley) is coming off a weekend split against Michigan State. Valpo is hitting .291 as a team and scoring 6.9 runs per game, but the pitching staff has a 6.31 team ERA and .307 batting average against.

The game will be broadcast on BTN2Go. Dave Loane will have the radio call on the Fighting Illini Sports Network and WDWS 1400-AM.
