Final Results
CHICAGO – The No. 25 University of Illinois women's gymnastics team won their 11-straight State of Illinois Classic title on Sunday afternoon in Chicago. The Illini hit a 195.025, topping host school UIC (194.725), NIU (194.400) and Illinois State (188.550).
Entering the third rotation, Illinois trailed UIC, 97.450-97.300. A strong third rotation on floor (48.950) propelled UI into first place, 146.250-146.050 and the Flames were unable to answer.
Sophomore Rae Balthazor won the all-around title with a 39.275. Senior Bridget Hodan earned two event titles on beam (9.850) and floor (9.850). The floor title is the first of Hodan's career.
Up next, the Illini travel to East Lansing, Michigan, for the B1G Five Meet on Saturday afternoon. Illinois will compete against Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska and Ohio State to determine session placing in the 2018 Big Ten Championships held at the State Farm Center. Competition on Saturday begins at 1 pm CT and will be streamed live on BTN2Go.
