Hi Illini Fans!
We are back from Peoria, Arizona, after our first tournament of the Spring season. We ended the Westbrook Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, in ninth place with a three-day total of 859 (-5).
After quite a break with the offseason and winter break, we were really excited to be back on the road and competing again. Westbrook is a very special tournament for us for many reasons; we get to spend a day with fellow alumni, stay with host families and we always see many of our Orange and Blue fans out on the course.
This trip was a little longer as we spent an extra day down in the desert. Sandy Furman hosted the team at Grayhawk Golf Club (host of the NCAA Championship 2020-2022) with a practice session, an amazing lunch and nine holes with fellow Illinois alumni. Following golf, we had dinner at the Broerens' home again this year with even more Illini alums. Anita outdid herself with fresh homemade pasta!
The next day was our practice round, where we focused on the course and the strategies we would use for the tournament. After the practice round we spent the evening with our host families, parents and former team members, Sam Postillion, Ember Schuldt and Stephanie Miller.
Westbrook is a course that presents many scoring opportunities, especially when combined with the conditions this week, so scores tend be much lower. We posted two under par rounds for both rounds on the first day 286 (-2) and 283 (-5), putting us eighth in the field. We gave ourselves many opportunities but were not quite able to capitalize on them. We knew we needed to post some low scores on the last round to make a move and we went after it, but unfortunately it just wasn't our day. We posted a final round of 290 to finish ninth for the tournament. We had four individuals finish sub-par for the tournament. Bing, Dana and Ali all finished two-under par while Tristyn finished one-under par. There were definitely positives from the tournament and it also showed us areas of our game we need to work on to prepare for our next tournaments.
This is a quick turnaround for us as we will be heading to the west again to Fairfax, California. We are back on campus for just a couple days before leaving for the Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate. During practice we will tune in to the little details and maximize our time to prepare ourselves fully. There are still many tournaments ahead this season. We will take it one at a time and continue to use our positive energy each day in preparation for the next opportunity.  Â
Until then,
I-L-L!
