The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will induct members of the Inaugural Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2017 during a public ceremony at State Farm Center on Saturday, September 30 at 2 pm. The ceremony will be held the day following the Illinois vs. Nebraska football game.
All fans are invited to attend the free ceremony, which will be emceed by UI Alumnus Ryan Baker of CBS Channel 2 in Chicago. Fans are encouraged to order complimentary tickets in advance. They may reserve print-at-home tickets here. The first 500 fans who present print-at-home tickets at the ceremony will receive a free Hall of Fame picture frame.
The Induction Ceremony will feature 13 members of the 2017 class, each of whom are expected to receive their award in person and issue a brief acceptance speech. Those honorees expected to attend include: Nick Anderson, Dee Brown, Tonja Buford-Bailey, Dick Butkus, Jerry Colangelo, Perdita Felicien, Abie Grossfeld, Mannie Jackson, Karol Kahrs, Nancy Thies Marshall, Renee Heiken Slone, Mary Egger Tendler, and Craig Virgin. Family members for 12 other Hall of Fame members will also be in attendance and will accept awards on behalf of honorees.
State Farm Center doors will open at 1 pm with general admission seating. Special video tributes will be shown on SFC video boards prior to the official ceremony which begins at 2 pm. Those attending should enter through the main west entrance off First Street. Free parking will be available in the State Farm Center lots.
