Hello Illini Nation!
The team got back from playing at the Albuquerque Regional! It had been five years since we played in Regionals as a team so we were all very excited to compete in this tournament. Although it was our first time playing the course, our assistant Coach Jenny played in her college nationals at the same course a few years back! We got some great information on the course prior to playing as well as a good practice round in to prepare us for the next three days.
The first round of Regionals the weather was great, except maybe it was a little windy, and the course could not have been in better condition. Despite the great conditions, we couldn't take full advantage of it and did not end up quite where we wanted to be. However, we did not lose heart and fully believed in each other's abilities to bring in a solid round for the next two days. We made sure we were all in our best condition and the right mindset to never give up till the end. The following day, the conditions were tougher but we were able to battle through and move up four spots from the first day! As a team we shot one under, putting ourselves in great position for the final round. The final round, conditions were even tougher with the wind blowing close to 20-40 mph. We all fought hard but fell short to making it to Nationals.
Overall, it was a great experience and it is very exciting to see where our team is headed next year! Although our season has come to an end at Regionals, we gained so much from this experience and are preparing ourselves for this summer as well as this upcoming school year.
Until next time Illini!!
