Excitement surrounding Fighting Illini football is at a fever pitch heading into Lovie Smith's second season coaching the Orange and Blue. The 2016 season witnessed a 10% increase in average attendance, the fifth largest increase in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). A sold out student section in the home opener against Murray State, a sold out night game against North Carolina, and a victory over Michigan State were some of the highlights in 2016. Now is the time for fans to get on board for the 2017 campaign.
Season ticket renewals begin this week and continue until April 3.
The Fighting Illini are embarking on the next phase of the Illinois Renaissance with a renovation of historic Memorial Stadium, scheduled to begin at the end of the 2017 season. This renovation will include improvements for fans in many areas of the stadium. A modest increase in season ticket prices will help the Fighting Illini prepare for these renovations and give all fans the opportunity to play a role in making these improvements a reality.
"Our coaches, student-athletes, and staff are grateful for the support provided by our Fighting Illini football season ticket holders," said Josh Whitman, Director of Athletics. "I know first-hand the difference a great crowd makes in Memorial Stadium, and as we build our football program, we all have a role to play. Let's work together to maximize the energy around Fighting Illini Football and the upcoming renovations to our historic stadium."
