ROSEMONT, Ill. – Fighting Illini junior Aleks Vukic was named the Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. Vukic is coming off a strong performance over the weekend against Indiana and Notre Dame, where the junior went 3-0 in doubles and singles. The honor is the first for the Illini this season and fifth of Vukic's career.

The Illini junior began the weekend earning his first dual match doubles victory of the season with freshman Aleks Kovacevic, 7-5 over Indiana's Crane and Brodney. The Sydney, Australia native followed the win with a 6-1, 7-6(0) victory over Raheel Manji on court one. On Sunday, Vukic continued to find success on the singles courts. The No. 31-ranked Vukic defeated Notre Dame's No. 34-ranked Josh Hagar, 6-3, 6-1.

Vukic is currently riding a four-match singles winning streak and owns a 5-1 dual match record this season at No. 1 singles. The Illini has a record of 4-1 against ITA-ranked opponents this spring.

Vukic is the second Illini to garner the Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week award Aron Hiltzik on January 17. Illinois faces the No. 1-ranked Virginia Cavaliers today at 4 p.m. CT in Charlottesville, Va.
