Hi Illini Fans!
We are back from Simpsonville, Kentucky, after our fourth straight top-five finish. We ended the Cardinal Cup, hosted by University of Louisville, in second place, which was our second runner-up finish this fall. It was a solid tournament for us amongst a pretty tough field but we also realize that we still have more to give.
Prior to leaving for the Cardinal Cup, we had a bit of a longer break to prepare for the trip after our busy traveling schedule from our first three tournaments. We were able to gather what we learned from the beginning of our season and look through our stats to identify what we need to work on. We focused on short games, wedges and short irons and a lot of situational practice. We were able to have a recovery period and put in some quality work on our golf game to get ourselves ready.
During the first two rounds, we put ourselves in a really good position with scores of 288 and 299, putting us third in the field and were in the final paring for the final round. The second day presented tougher conditions with much stronger wind and scores for the whole field were higher. It was much harder to be aggressive and we really had to be patient out there. We adjusted well to the tough conditions and posted a final round of 298, which was the low round for the day. Tristyn had the low round individually, finishing with a 71, moving up 22 spots to finish 3rd in the tournament. Two more Illini secured top 10 finishes individually including Bing and myself. All in all it was a really solid tournament for us. Having the lowest team score in two out of three rounds in the tournament is certainly a positive, but we know we left some shots out there.Â
We are back on campus for a couple days where we will be fine tuning the little details and maximizing our time to prepare ourselves for the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by Louisville again, in less than a week. This is a quick turnaround for us, as we will be heading to Atlanta, Georgia. We will focus on keeping our positive energy going for our last tournament of the fall and working hard to finish our fall season strong.
Until then,
I-L-L!
