Hiltzik, Nevolo Team Up for Doubles Title at Houston Futures

HOUSTON, Texas – Senior Aron Hiltzik and former Illini All-American, Dennis Nevolo, teamed up to win the doubles title at the USA F33 Futures in Houston, Texas on Friday afternoon. The Illini duo defeated the No. 1 overall seeds, Austin Krajicek and Thai Son-Kwiatkowski, 7-6(3), 6-3 in the final.

"Obviously, we love to see former guys and current guys winning titles," said head coach Brad Dancer. "It is definitely more special when a current player and former player team up to bring home a doubles title. Aron has always been compared to Dennis, so it was really great that those two got to spend the week together. I am very happy for them and looking forward to the next opportunity for them to claim a title."

Hiltzik and Nevolo opened the tournament with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Jody Maginley and Evan Zhu. Quarterfinal action saw the pairing top Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant, 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 to advance to Thursday's semifinal against the No. 2-seeded pair of Eduardo Dischinger and Bernardo Saraiva. The Illini were able to earn a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the No. 2 seeds.

The final match was an all-college affair with Austin Krajicek coming from Texas A&M and Thai Son-Kwiatkowski, an alumnus of the Unviersity of Virginia. Hiltzik and Nevolo dispatched the No. 1 seeds, 7-6(3), 6-3.

The doubles title is the first professional title of Aron Hiltzik's career. The win marks Nevolo's second doubles title of 2017. Nevolo most recently teamed up with Deiton Baughman to claim the Canada F6 Futures doubles title.
