Greetings Illini Fans!
This weekend our team kicked off the new school year with a team trip to Starved Rock State Park lasting Friday night through Sunday early afternoon. It was a fun way to build team chemistry while also having important discussions on mindset, team standards, and our vision statement.
We hiked for a couple of hours Saturday afternoon, pausing for games such as the human knot and telephone. At first I felt it would be safer to send my message via pigeon, but we improved by the end. Throughout the hike 36 different dogs were spotted as recorded by Dana and Tristyn. Also, near the end of our hike a portion of our team witnessed a proposal on Lover's Leap (how cute!).
Saturday night we had salmon or chicken, quinoa, and green beans for dinner; it was delicious, special thanks to CJ (Coach Jenny) and Steph. Our hands were tied together with the person on either side of us, causing some dismay and amusement. We were able to find a solution and work together to eat the tasty meal! After dinner and more discussion, we played a very exciting and intense game of Pictionary; the game went to sudden death and my team came through with the win! Kudos to the opposing group, who came back from 4-down to tie the match.
Sunday morning we went on another hike and had our second attempt at a human knot. After many laughs and nearing frustration, we again found a solution through communication and having one person help see our group objectively. Towards the end of our trek we paired up and Coach gave half of us blindfolds. Our partners were to lead us on the trail and through seemingly easy obstacles (e.g. around trees, up/down stairs), the goal being to wholly trust your guide. Overall I had a great time, enjoyed seeing how our team has grown from last year, and am excited for what lies ahead.
Go Illini!
