The University of Illinois Chapter of Uplifting Athletes held its annual Lift For Life event Friday night at Memorial Stadium. Lift For Life raised $21,735, a new event record, toward its mission of raising awareness and research dollars for rare disease acoustic neuroma, which ended the playing career of former Illini offensive lineman Andrew Carter. Proceeds will benefit the Acoustic Neuroma Association.
» Andrew Carter's Story
In the fifth Lift For Life at Illinois, and the Fighting Illini football team continued its tradition of a team competition with eight squads going head-to-head. This year's red squad was the winner, featuring Altan Aldemir, Desmond Cain, Chunky Clements, Nathan Echard, Ryan Frain, Ahmari Hayes, Kenyon Jackson, Gabe Megginson, Patrick Nelson, Ryan Tucker and Tyler White.
In four years of hosting Lift for Life, the Fighting Illini have raised nearly $60,000 for research to support the Acoustic Neuroma community. Fans can still donate to the cause now at the Uplifting Athletes Fundraising Page.
About Uplifting Athletes
A nonprofit organization founded in 2007, Uplifting Athletes inspires the rare disease community with hope through the power of sport. A rare disease is one that affects fewer than 200,000 Americans and typically lacks financial incentive to make and market new treatments. With a network of university chapters run by current college football student-athletes that spans all major conferences, Uplifting Athletes has had an economic impact of more than $400 million on the rare disease community.
