ST. LOUIS - Following four days of competition that spanned across the P&G Championships and Olympic Team Trials, five gymnasts and three alternates have been named to represent Team USA at the 2016 Rio de Janiero Olympics. Representing the University of Illinois in the four days of action were former Illini Paul Ruggeri ('12) and C.J. Maestas ('15).

The complete men's U.S. Olympic Team, pending United States Olympic Committee approval, is comprised of: Chris Brooks of Houston, Texas/Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center); Jake Dalton of Sparks, Nev./Team Hilton (University of Oklahoma); Mikulak; Alex Naddour of Queen Creek, Ariz./Team Hilton (USA Youth Fitness); and John Orozco of Bronx, N.Y./Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center). 

Danell Leyva of Miami/Team Hilton (Universal Gymnastics), Akash Modi of Morganville, N.J./Stanford University, and Donnell Whittenburg, Baltimore, Md./Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center), are the replacement athletes for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Men's Gymnastics Team. Mark Williams, head coach for the University of Oklahoma's men's gymnastics program, was named head coach for the 2016 squad. 

Replacement athletes train and prepare along with the U.S. Olympic Men's Gymnastics Team and are on deck to step in should one of the Olympic team members withdraw from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 

Ruggeri finished seventh in the four-day all-around competition totals with a reading of 351.525. He finished in the top five on floor exercise, vault and high bar.

Maestas posted the best four-day rings total at 62.450 for an average score of 15.613. He also turned in a sixth place overall finish on the high bar coming in at 59.325.
