Fighting Illini distance runner Dylan Lafond qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials over the weekend in the 3,000m steeplechase. Finishing with a time of 8:32, Lafond topped his mark at 2015 NCAA Championships where he timed 8:41.11, placing seventh.
Lafond, a native of Manchester, New Hampshire, transfered to the University of Illinois from Mount Olive in the fall of 2014. A three-time All-American between track and cross-country, Lafond holds track school records in the indoor 3K and 5K, and the 8K in cross-country.
The first round of the steeplechase trials will take place on July 4 at 6:33 p.m. CT in Eugene, Oregon. The event final is scheduled for Friday, July 8 at 7:32 p.m.
