URBANA, Ill. - The No. 15 ranked Fighting Illini men's tennis team garnered a 4-0 road victory at Iowa Friday night to extend its winning streak to six matches. The Orange and Blue have now won their last six matches by the score of 4-0. UI improves to 14-7 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten.
"We're glad we got a road win," head coach Brad Dancer said. "Ross and Greg are building a good program here at Iowa. You could see better purpose with Brian Page and Julian Childers in their doubles and that gave the team a big boost. As we look to Nebraska, we need to continue to play with a sense of urgency across the board."
Illinois was victorious in doubles for the seventh straight match, garnering victories over the Hawkeyes at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Childers and Page defeated Jacoby/Silverstein 6-2 on court three, while Pengxuan Jiang and Jared Hiltzik topped Haden/Larsen 6-4.
Illinois made quick of Iowa in singles, with Childers the first to garner a victory. He defeated Jonas Larsen 6-2, 6-2 on court four to extend his winning streak to five-consecutive matches. Childers improved to 6-0 in Big Ten play.
No. 11 Jared Hiltzik increased the Illini lead to 3-0, winning in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) over Lefteris Theodorou. No. 57 Aron Hiltzik clinched the victory at No. 3 singles. Aron defeated Robin Haden by the scores of 6-2, 6-4.
Up next, Illinois will face Nebraska on the road Sunday, April 10, at Noon.
