CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Cody Sedlock was named the National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America, becoming the first pitcher in Illinois history to earn a national pitcher of the week award. Sedlock struck out 14 Ohio State batters Friday night in 10.2 innings, the longest outing in Division I this season, in one of the most dominant performances in Fighting Illini history.
Sedlock, who also took home Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors, helped the Illini win 1-0 in 15 innings.
"That's what all the hours in the weight room and conditioning in the offseason in the winter, waking up at 6 a.m. three times a week, that's what that's for," said Sedlock. "I'm in the best shape of my life and built to go like that."
Sedlock was also among Collegiate Baseball's seven National Players of the Week.
