NCAA Public Recognition Search
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Five University of Illinois athletic teams earned the NCAA Public Recognition Award based on their multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR), the NCAA announced Wednesday.
Baseball, men's golf, women's golf and women's tennis and volleyball received the Public Recognition Award, which is given to the teams with an APR among the top-10 percent of its sport nationally for the four-year period beginning in the 2011-12 season and ending with the 2014-15 season. All five programs were repeat winners and helped Illinois set a school record in 2014-15 for the most teams honored in a single year (7).
Men's Golf (1000)
Illinois has received the award for the last four seasons.
Women's Golf (1000)
Illinois has been honored with the Public Recognition Award for 11 consecutive seasons. Illini women's golf is one of just 110 Division I programs to rank among the top 10-percent every year since the APR was invented.
Women's Tennis (1000)
Illinois has received the award for the last four seasons.
Volleyball (1000)
Illinois has received the award for the last two seasons.
Baseball (995)
Illinois has received the award eight times, including the past five seasons.
This year, 1,071 teams were publicly recognized for high achievement, including 649 women's teams and 422 men's or mixed squads. In 2015, 1,124 teams were recognized, the most ever since the NCAA began the Public Recognition Awards and an increase of 75 teams from 2014.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I APR. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
This year's APR rates are based on data from the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
The APRs for all Division I teams will be released by the NCAA on April 20.
