CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini baseball team travels to DeLand, Florida, this weekend for three games against three nonconference opponents at the Westin Lake Mary Stetson Invitational. The Illini are set to face Central Michigan on Friday (12 p.m. CT), Stetson on Saturday (6 p.m. CT) and Villanova on Sunday (10 a.m. CT) at Melching Field.
Illinois (3-3) took two of three games at Florida Gulf Coast last weekend. Freshman centerfielder Doran Turchin led the team in hitting (6-12, .500) during the series and drove in two RBI. The Illini pitching staff has been sharp in the first six games with a 2.77 team ERA and 9.0 strikeouts per game.
Central Michigan (0-7) is coming off a 20-1 loss against Tennessee. CMU has played a tough schedule so far, dropping three games to SEC opponent No. 14 Arkansas to start the season.
Stetson (4-5) lost three straight games to Creighton at Melching Field last weekend but rebounded to beat Bethune-Cookman, 11-2, Wednesday. Pitching has carried to Hatters to date, as the team has a 3.62 ERA, including a 1.17 ERA from reliever Eric Wiebke over six appearances.
Villanova (2-6) started the season 0-4, including three straight losses to nationally-ranked Houston to open the year, before winning two of its last four games. Todd Czinege leads the team with 15 hits, two home runs and seven RBIs.

Illinois makes a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the Coastal Carolina Invitational March 11-13. The Fighting Illini are scheduled to play two games against UNC Greensboro and two games against the host Coastal Carolina.
