Cody Sedlock's season opener was among the best performances in the nation this past weekend. The Illinois junior right-hander allowed one earned run on five hits over 6.0 innings, while striking out 10 and walking one, at No. 19 Tulane.
• Leads the Big Ten in strikeouts
• Two more strikeouts than any other Big Ten opening Day starter
• Ranks No. 9 nationally in strikeouts
• Only Opening Day starter in the nation to strikeout 10+ against a ranked opponent
• Fifth in the Big Ten in innings pitched (6.0)
A large contingent of professional scouts was in the crowd to watch the top-40 prospect. That is expected to be the norm for the Illini's new No. 1 starter who was making his fifth career start. Head coach Dan Hartleb has gone on record saying he thinks Sedlock has first-round talent and the junior did not disappoint in his first test of 2016.Â
