Simpsonville, Ky. – At the conclusion of the first round of the Cardinal Cup, the Fighting Illini find themselves in fourth place with a 17-over-par score.
"The golf course was playing tough today," head coach Renee Slone said. "Some holes were very challenging."
Currently sitting in a tie for first place, Bing Singhsumalee finished the day with a score of 71 (-1). Grace Park turned in a 75 (+3) effort, good for a tie in seventh place.
Tying for 28th, Tristyn Nowlin carded a 78 (+6) on the day, and Stephanie Miller recorded a nine-over-par (81) in the first round.
Chayanid Prapassarangkul finished with a first round score of 87 (+15), and Dana Gattone, competing as an individual, tied for 13th with a score of 76 (+4).
"We know there is plenty of room for improvements, and we are looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow and getting another opportunity at the golf course and climbing our way up a tightly-bunched leaderboard."
Florida State has a slight lead, with a 13-over-par score. In second is Kentucky at +14, and Wisconsin currently sits in third with a 15-over par score.
The second round is slated for a 9 a.m. CT start tomorrow, with the final round of play set for Tuesday.
