MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – In the opening round of the season, and Minnesota Invitational, the Illinois women's golf team did not disappoint, as the Orange and Blue unit posted a team round of 289 and followed it up with a second round mark of 303 to enter the final day in third place. Illinois is led by freshman Bing Singhsumalee who led the individual standings for much of the day following a -6 carding in the first round.

Singhsumalee leads the field with 10 birdies after the first two rounds from the Minikahda Club in Minnapolis, Minnesota, and currently sits fifth on the leaderboard, just two strokes off the lead. The freshman opened with seven birdies across the first 18 holes of her collegiate career and carded just one boogey. Her second round included three more birdies against six holes above par for a first day reading of 66-76=142.

A carding of 66(-6) puts Singhsumalee in elite company, matching the best score (-6) in team history. The last time the score was shot was by Seul Ki Park on Oct. 8, 2007. Becky Beach also hit the mark in the 1976 Big Ten Championship.

Stephanie Miller turned in rounds of 72 and 77 to earn a resting spot in a share of 13th following the first two rounds. The junior carded four birdies across the opening frames.

Not far behind is Dana Gattone who holds a share of 19th place at 150(+6). Gattone shot rounds of 72-78 and posted seven birdies in her efforts.

Chayanid Prapassarangkul and fellow sophomore Grace Park round out the field for Illinois tied for 35th. The Illini golfers posted identical readings of 79-75=154. The second-year team members combined for nine birdies on the opening day of the fall season.

Competing at the Minnesota Invitational individually, Pailin Ruttanasupagid sits tied for 64th entering the final round of her first collegiate action. The sophomore shot rounds of 79-88=167.

As a unit, the Orange and Blue posted 30 birdies across the first two rounds, a mark that reads second in the 12-team field.

Purdue leads all teams at +10 entering the final round. East Carolina jumped seven spots into second place at +14, while Illinois is right behind at +16. Houston holds fourth place overnight at +20 with Minnesota right behind at +21 and Kent State reading +22. Rounding out the field, GRU Augusta and Colorado share seventh place with a reading of +25, TCU holds the last single-digit spot with a +27 two-round effort, Texas (+38), Kentucky (+41) and Kansas (+50) hold spots 10-12.

Competitors return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 15, beginning with a shotgun start at 9 am CT.
