CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini women's track and field team hosted the Illinois Twilight on Saturday, April 18 and earned runner-up honors in the team race. The Orange and Blue scored 140 points, falling short of team champion Western Michigan's 179 points.
The highlight of the day for Illinois came in the pole vault competition where three Illini competitors cracked the school's top-10 list. Stephanie Richartz led the charge, winning the event with a clearance of 4.36m (14' 3.50"), establishing new Illinois school and Illinois Soccer and Track stadium facility records.
Jennifer DeBellis, Sara McKeeman and Liz Livingston also scored points for the Illini in the pole vault. DeBellis finished third with a personal-best jump of 4.03m (13' 2.50"), moving her into second all-time in school history. McKeeman finished fourth with a clearance of 3.81m (12' 6"), tying her for fourth in Illinois history. Livingston jumped 3.51m (11' 6.25") to finish eighth.
In the 800m, Amanda Duvendack grabbed the event crown with a time of 2:06.89. Lindsey Rakosnik came away with a third-place finish after a personal-best run of 2:10.57.
Breeana Coleman earned the victory in the 100m hurdles, breaking the tape in 13.57. Valerie Bobart also came away a winner, taking the 3,000m steeplechase title in a lifetime-best time of 10:52.87.
In the field events, Kandie Bloch-Jones was also an event winner, claiming the high jump with a clearance of 1.77m (5' 9.75"). She also finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 32.88m (107' 10").
In the 1,500m, Alyssa Schneider was the top collegiate finisher, crossing the line in 4:26.00 to claim second. The Orange and Blue also got a runner-up performance from Britten Petrey in the 3,000m, as she crossed the finish line in 9:50.00. Hanna Winter was right behind Petrey in the race, clocking 9:51.67 to finish third.
The 4x400m relay team of Miranda Marry, Nicole Choquette, Rakosnik and Moira McAsey also garnered runner-up status, racing to a time of 3:48.22.
In the discus, Jazjuan Wallace-Sipp and Mariah Smith were the top two collegiate competitors, finishing behind former Illini star Gia Lewis-Smallwood. Wallace-Sipp took runner-up honors with a season-best throw of 48.82m (160' 2"), while Mariah Smith was third with a throw of 47.51m (155' 10").
Audrey Blazek was fourth in the 5,000m with a personal-best performance of 17:22.45. In the 400m hurdles, Jasmine Berry also grabbed a fourth-place finish, clocking a career-best time of 1:01.89. Marry was sixth in the 400m hurdles after running 1:02.25, also a personal-best.
Rounding out the Illini point-scoring competitors were Kymbriona Taylor and Chloe Schmidt. Taylor finished sixth in the 200m in 24.87, tying her season-best, while Schmidt was eighth in the 400m with a time of 59.26.
Illinois will return to action on a short week as they head to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 22-25.
