NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Illinois women's track and field team followed up Friday's strong performance at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite with another good showing on Saturday. The weekend featured one event title and eight top-10 finishes for the Illini. Illinois also tallied 16 season bests, eight personal records and two changes to Illinois' top-10 lists.

"This was a good meet for us," said head coach Ron Garner. "We saw a lot of improvement and good results in almost every area. The team is doing the right things and gaining confidence. Our hard work is starting to show."

On Friday, Nicole Choquette jumped up to third on Illinois' all-time list in the 600m with a time of 1:30.47. That performance is the best in the Big Ten this season.

Kandie Bloch-Jones also had a good first day of competition, clearing a season best 1.77m (5' 9.75"). The clearance puts her in a tie for fifth in the conference.

The pole vault duo of Stephanie Richartz and Jennifer DeBellis also had strong performances on Friday evening. Richartz cleared 4.26m (13' 11.75") to take the win, while DeBellis posted a clearance of 3.91m (12' 10") to earn finish fifth.

The strong performances continued for Illinois on Saturday. In the mile, Alyssa Schneider jumped up Illinois' all-time list after finishing fourth in 4:42.78. Her performance bumps her up to fifth on the career top-10 list. That time is also the fifth-best mark in the Big Ten this season.

After qualifying for the finals of the 60m hurdles on Friday evening with a season-best time of 8.31, Breeana Coleman finished fourth, third among collegiate athletes, in the event with a time of 8.38. This gave her two top-10 finishes on the weekend. Coleman's finals qualifying time of 8.31 is currently the third fastest in the conference.

In the 400m, Jasmine Berry and Samone Thompson had season-best performances, and the 3,000m run produced lifetime bests for Colette Falsey and Hanna Winter.

The 4x400m relay team of Pedrya Seymour, Choquette, Kymbriona Taylor and Berry finished the day with another season best, clocking 3:49.64.

"Across the board, I thought we performed well at an event that had some high-level competition," Garner concluded. "This sets us up well as we get ready for the Big Ten Championships."

Illinois will return to action next weekend at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Action begins on Friday, Feb. 13 and continues through Saturday, Feb 14.
