Each week the Illini in the NFL update provides coverage on how former Fighting Illini football players fared during the previous week. 

Jeff Allen, OL, Kansas City Chiefs (@JeffAllen71– After missing the first two games due to injury, Allen saw action at tackle for the third straight week in Kansas City's 18-17 Week 5 loss to Chicago

Alan Ball, CB, Chicago Bears â€“ Ball, who started the Bears' first three games, did not play for the second straight week due to a groin injury. The Bears picked up their second win of the season, 18-17, at Kansas City. 

Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets (@Cumberland85– Cumberland and the Jets were on a bye during week five.

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts (@VontaeDavis) â€“ Started at CB, made five tackles (two solo and three assisted) in the Colts' 27-20 win over the Texans Thursday night. Davis has six passed defended on the season and 15 tackles on the season. 

Michael Hoomanawanui, TE, New Orleans Saints â€“ After being traded from the Patriots to the Saints prior to week four, Hoomanawanui made his New Orleans debut in week five, catching two passes for four yard and fumbling once as the Saints lost to the Eagles, 39-17. His blocking did help the Saints rack up 388 yards of total offense. 

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers (@CoreyLiuget– Started at DE and picked up his first sack of 2015 to go along with two tackles in the Chargers 24-20 loss to the Steelers Monday night. 

Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans (@Merci380) â€“ Started and had three tackles in Houston's 27-20 loss to the Colts on Thursday night. Mercilus has 15 tackles and one pass defense on the season. 

Akeem Spence, DT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@AkeemSpence) â€“ Spence is on the Buccaneers physically unable to perform (PUP) list with a back injury suffered prior to training camp. He can't be activated to the active roster until after the first six games of the season. 

Hugh Thornton, OL, Indianapolis Colts (@HughThornton72– Thornton made his third straight start at guard and helped the Colts to a 27-20 win over the Texans in week five. 

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots (@TavonWilson27– Wilson was inactive for the Patriots' 30-6 win at Dallas. 

Former Illini on Injured Reserve

Jon Asamoah, OL, Atlanta Falcons â€“ After starting 15 games for the Falcons last season, Asamoah will miss entire 2015 season with a hip injury.

Arrelious Benn, Wr, Jacksonville Jaguars (@ArreliousBenn) â€“ Benn suffered a broken collarbone during the preseason and will miss the entire 2015 season. It is the third straight season Benn will miss due to injury.
