CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Sophomore Malcolm Hill scored a game-high 20 points and freshman Leron Black added 15 points, as Illinois downed Quincy 91-62 in an exhibition on Friday night at State Farm Center. Senior Nnanna Egwu shined on the defensive end with 13 rebounds and five blocks to help hold the Hawks to 37.5 percent shooting.
Wearing their rebranded white uniforms for the first time, the Illini took control of the contest with a 17-0 run in just over five minutes (18:04 to 12:46) in the first half. After jumping ahead 17-3, UI maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. Hill racked up 14 points in the first half to lead the Illini to a 37-20 halftime advantage, while Egwu grabbed nine boards in the opening stanza.
Illinois shot 47.1 percent (32-of-68) from the field, with the Illini bench catching fire at 83.3 percent (15-of-18). Senior Rayvonte Rice and junior Aaron Cosby each posted 11 points to join Hill and Black in double figures, while 11 different Illini entered the scoring column.
Black made his first seven shots and finished 7-of-9 while also tallying eight rebounds. Fellow freshman Michael Finke drained his three field goals and added two free throws for nine points.
The Orange and Blue also dominated on points off turnovers with a 33-8 edge, as they forced 17 Quincy miscues.
