COLLEGE STATION, Texas - In the finals of the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships, senior Tamika Robinson clocked a time of 8.14 and placed seventh to earn first-team All-American honors. The Chicago, Ill., native scored two team points for the Illinois women's track and field team to wrap up the indoor campaign at Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
"Tamika had an awesome end to her indoor collegiate career," head coach Tonja Buford-Bailey said. "It was always her goal to make the finals and she did that by running a personal best yesterday. She competed very well today, but got a little distracted by the girl who fell in the lane next to her, so she could have run even faster. This is just a good indicator of how well she can do outdoors."
Robinson garnered All-America accolades for the first time during the indoor season and second time in her career after also capturing them in the 100m hurdles at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships. She advanced to Saturday's final with a personal-best time of 8.12 during Friday's prelims, which ranks third in school history behind Perdita Felicien (7.90) and Susanna Kallur (8.00). Last season at indoor nationals, Robinson just missed making the finals by eight thousandths of a second after timing 8.22 during prelims.
Up Next: The Fighting Illini will have a week off before beginning the outdoor season at the Stanford Classic (March 25-26) in Palo Alto, Calif., and the Big Ten vs. SEC Challenge on Saturday, March 26 in Starkville, Miss.
