URBANA, Ill. - The Fighting Illini men's cross-country team fielded two runners in the Illini Open Friday, with Mark Donohuefinishing first for the Illini and third overall with an 8K time of 25:49. Since the Illini ran only two runners this year, they were unable to record a team score.

"For the two guys I had running today in Illinois vests, I was trying to change their practice," cross country coach Gavin Kennedysaid. "I thought instead of getting a workout in, I would have them run a race before the season is over."

In his first race of the season, senior Graham Farnsworth, clocked a personal best 5K time of 26:12, beating his previous mark by five seconds.

Running unattached was a group of freshmen, with Tommy King (25:43) coming in second, David Eckhart (25:50) in fifth, Sam Telfer (25:54) in sixth, Paul Zeman (25:55) in seventh, Ian Barnett (26:17) in 11th, and Joe McAsey(26:33) in 13th.

Marc Amarillas from SIU-Edwardsville took the individual title with a time of 25:34, helping the Cougars capture the overall team title.

The Illini will be back at home next Sunday as they host the Big Ten Championships at the UI Arboretum with the 8K-race beginning at 10:45 a.m. CT. For more information regarding the conference meet, click HERE.
