CHARLESTON, Ill. - Freshman Kristin Morrison's victory in the triple jump highlighted the performances from a handful of Illinois women's track and field athletes at the EIU Friday Night Special. Morrison recorded the top spot with a winning bound of 36-9 ½ (11.21m), while junior Kelly Washington placed second with a mark of 36-7 ½ (11.16m).
A half dozen distance runners also competed at the Lantz Fieldhouse, with freshman Courtney Yaeger (10:37.32) turning in the top performance with a runner-up finish in the 3,000m. Fellow freshman Kelsey Seiler (10:38.07) took sixth in that same race, while junior Maggie Mulchrone (10:49.57) finished seventh.
In the 800m, a trio of freshmen competed, led by Meagan Hynes, who placed 13th with a time of 2:24.37. Kendra Kennedy finished shortly after Hynes, coming in 14th at 2:24.76, while Mary Sullivan was close behind with a time of 2:24.96 in 16th place.
Freshman Maria Scheet led the way in the pole vault, tallying the top mark by any Illini in the event this season. The Lisle, Ill., native tied for fourth with a personal-best height of 11-7 3/4 (3.55m), while junior Kaitlin Vicari came in sixth at 11-1 3/4 (3.40m).
Next week, Illinois heads to State College, Pa., for the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Feb. 27-28.
