CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Illinois men's track and field team turned in four first-place finishes on Friday at the Saluki Fast Start hosted by Southern Illinois, with senior All-American Gakologelwang Masheto winning two events.
Masheto took the 400m title with a time of 48.30 and also anchored the 4x400m relay to a first place finish (3:18.74). Joining Masheto on the mile relay was sophomore Dan Jones, junior Gary Miller and senior Maxwell Mkwezalamba.
Junior Brian Beaird won the 800m in a time of 1:54.42, while freshman Graham Farnsworth won the mile in his first collegiate track and field meet (4:24.57).
The Illini had two of the top three finishers in the 600m, as Miller was second in a time of 1:21.16 and junior Scott Phelps was close behind in taking third (1:21.35).
Sophomore Cody Wisslead ran a 60m hurdles personal-best in event preliminaries, timing 8.34. Wisslead took sixth in finals with a time of 8;46, while freshman Shawn Ledbetter was fifth in 8.40.
Freshman Aaron Mathis was fifth in the pole vault with a height of 15-1.
The Illini will have over a month off until their next competition, when they compete in a dual meet in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 10.
