Complete 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championship Resutls
Sacramento, Calif. - Junior Trent Hoerr represented the Fighting Illini men's track & field team Thursday night at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Sacramento State at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.
Hoerr ran a time of 30:04.03 in the 10,000m run to finish in 21st place. Shadrack Songok of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the race with a time of 28:55.83. Earlier in the season at the Stanford Invite, Hoerr ran a career-best time of 28:55.22 to qualify for the NCAA Championships, but Thursday was more of a tactical race, similar to the Big Ten Championships where he finished second, making fast times harder to achieve.
"Trent had a great year," said Illinois assistant coach Wendel McRaven. "Just the experience being in the championship race and all of the things that surround it will be valuable for him next season. We're a little disappointed in the finish and I think Trent ran out of gas a bit at the end of the season, but running tonight definitely gave him a taste of what it takes to compete at this level and should serve as good motivation for next year."
Action continues on Friday, June 8, for the Fighting Illini, with sophomore Lesiba Masheto running in the 400m dash semifinals at 5:55 p.m. PT. The top three finishers from each of the two semifinal heats, plus the next two fastest times, will advance to the final on Saturday.
