The Fighting Illini Women's track and field team continued a solid weekend at the 2006 Meyo Invitational Saturday in South Bend, Ind., including two provisional qualifications for the NCAA Championships.
Senior Yvonne Mensah finished strong following Friday's two first-place finishes. Mensah ran a 7.53 in the 60-meter dash to place fourth. In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore LaNeisha Waller also secured a fourth-place finish with a time of 8.52, while junior Camile Robinson placed seventh in the race with a time of 8.71.
In the field events, the Illini continued to have strong showings. Junior Kristina Jones placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 12.48-meters (40'11.50"). Right behind Jones was senior Nina Henson placing fourth with a jump of 12.45-meters (40'10.25").
Junior Cassie Hunt led the Illini in the distance events with a provisionally qualifying in the 3000-meter run. Hunt, who ran a time of 9:26.79, placed third overall. In the mile run, sophomore Rachel Hernandez ran a personal-best time of 4:54.14 to place seventh.
The Fighting Illini finished the day on a positive note by placing second in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Mensah, Camile Robinson, Carlene Robinson and freshman Omoye Ugiagbe provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 3:39.76
Next week the Illini head to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the Tyson Invitational on Friday, February 10, 2006.
