CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -
Illinois forward Erin Wigley had her first career double-double, scoring 14
points and grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds, but No. 25 Penn State
rallied to beat Illinois 63-56 on Sunday in front of 2,531 fans at Assembly Hall.
For Penn State, Jess Strom had 20 points and Tanisha Wright added 19 points as the Lady Lions (16-8, 11-2 Big Ten) beat
Illinois for the fifth straight time. Neither team led by more than five points
until Penn State took control of the game with a 9-2 run, sparked by Jennifer
Harris' three-point play with 5:41 to go.
The game was tied at 28 at halftime.
Angelina Williams added 15
points to extend her conference leading double-digit scoring streak to 17 games. The Chicago, Ill. native also added nine rebounds and four blocked shots for the Illini.
Janelle Hughes (11 points) and
Tiffanie Guthrie (10 points) were also in double figures for the Illini.
The Illini (13-10, 5-8) dropped their third consecutive game, their longest
losing streak of the season.
Penn State shot 37 percent from the field, but made 20 of its 27 free throw
attempts. Illinois outrebounded the Lady Lions 45-32.
Illinois returns to action this Wednesday, Feb. 16, when they host Northwestern at Assembly Hall at 7 p.m.
