Final Stats
Champaign, Ill.- After the first day of competition at the 2005 Central Collegiate Championships at the UI Armory, Illinois' women's track team leads the competition with 56 points, followed by Vanderbilt with 38 points and Kent State in third with 33 points.
Illinois' freshman trio of pole vaulters continued their strong season tonight as Ashley Hanshaw cleared 11'07" to move into second place on Illinois' all-time pole vault list, trailing only Angela Hilgers who had owned the top-five spots on the list. That vault won the event and classmates Samantha Scheidegger and Amanda Pintaro tied for second with after clearing 11'03".
In the 200m, sophomore Yvonne Mensah took home first place with a time of 24.50 while teammate Shanna Pickett ran 25.07 to place third.
The Fighting Illini had four competitors in the five-event pentathlon with sophomore Kristina Jones taking second place with 2,747 points, followed by Rachael Gliottoni in fifth place with 2,415 points, Alondra Cooper with 2,012 points and Lauren Shimmon who did not finish due to injury. Before she left, Shimmon set a personal best in the 60m hurdles, with a time of 9.10.
On her way to the second place finish, Jones set a career high in the 60m hurdles, running 8.85 to win the event. She was followed by Cooper who ran second in 8.92.
