The University of Illinois baseball team warmed up for its weekend series against the Indiana Hoosiers with a 10-1 win over Illinois College Wednesday afternoon at Illinois Field. The win moves Illinois to 13-19 overall while Illinois College falls to 13-12 on the year.
Illinois plated one in the bottom of the first when Trevor Huisinga led off with a double and scored on a ground out off the bat of Chris Robinson.
Illinois added to its lead in the second, putting up four for a 5-0 lead. Illinois scored all of its runs in the frame with two outs, as Trevor Huisinga and Chris Robinson both smashed two-run doubles.
Illinois College grabbed a single run in the top of the third to close the gap to 6-1, but Illinois got it back in the fourth, moving the lead 7-1.
Illinois made it 8-1 in the bottom of the seventh when Chris Robinson led off with his second double of the game and came home as Drew Davisdon, who reached on a fielders choice, stole second.
The lead grew to 10-1 in the eighth. Pinch hitter Rob Sullivan reached on a one-out error and came all the way around when Shawn Roof followed with a pinch-hit triple. Roof made it 10-1 when he came in on Chris Robinson's third hit and fourth RBI of the game.
Starter Emanuel Bishop got the win for Illinois, moving to 1-0 on the year. He allowed one run on four hits in three innings of work. Brandon Murphy threw three scoreless innings, striking out five while allowing only one hit.
Offensively, Chris Robinson was 3-for-4 with four RBI and a pair of doubles. Trevor Huisinga was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI.
Illinois returns to action this weekend in a four-game Big Ten Conference series at Illinois Field. Friday's game one is at 6:35 p.m., Saturday's doubleheader begins at 4:05 p.m. and Sunday's series finale is set for a 1:05 first pitch.
