The Fighting Illini opened play at the Assembly Hall with the Orange and Blue Scrimmage Saturday night in front of 7,634 enthusiastic fans. In a scrimmage that featured the 2003-04 Illini under first year Head Coach Bruce Weber, Sohpomore Deron Williams posted a game-high 25 points, including four three-pointers to lead all scorers as many players contributed to both teams.
Junior guard Luther Head hit for 19 points on a variety of moves and added seven assists, while Dee Brown added 17. Other key contributors for both squads was sophomore James Augustine combining for eight points and 10 rebounds, along with Junior Roger Powell who went for 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Freshman forward Brian Randle wowed the crowd with several high-flying dunks as he added six points.
Illinois next takes the floor Nov. 9 in a exhibition match-up against the Illinois All-Stars at 4 p.m.
