ILLINOIS GAME NOTES:

  • Travis Williams' (90 yards) and Eugene Wilson's (10 yards) kickoff return of 100 yards for a touchdown breaks a school record of 98 yards previously held by James Coleman in 1977 and George Uremovich/Lonnie Perrin in 1972. It was the first kickoff return for TD since Steve Havard returned one 94 yards vs. Indiana in 1998.

  • Antoineo Harris' 82 yard run in the first quarter was the sixth longest in school history and the longest since Ray Nitschke's 84 yard run vs. Northwestern in 1957.

  • Defensive tackle Jeff Ruffin intercepted a Kyle Orton pass in the first quarter marking the first time a defensive lineman had a pick since Fred Wakefield in 2000 vs. Ohio State. It was Ruffin's first career interception.

  • Jeff Ruffin's and Christian Morton's interceptions vs. Purdue marked the first time an Illinois team had two picks in a game since the Illini had two at Ohio State Nov. 17, 2001.

  • Antoineo Harris' runs of 82 and 47 yards put him over 100 yards for the second time this season and the seventh time in his career. Harris finished with a career high 195 yards and 2 touchdowns, which moved him into sixth place on the Illinois career rushing yardage list with 2,292 yards. He started the day ninth on the list.

  • Brandon Lloyd's 161 yards receiving moved him into second on the Illinois all-time receiving yardage list with 2,374 career yards. It was his 12th career 100+ yard receiving game, which ties him for second place on that Illinois career list with John Wright, Sr. The 161 yards is also the fifth time he topped the 100+ yard plateau this season.

  • Lloyd also scored his 18th career touchdown in the second quarter, which inched him closer to David Williams' career record of 24 TD receptions. Lloyd is currently second on the TD receptions list.

  • Today's overtime win is the third overtime game for Illinois in school history and the second overtime game in Memorial Stadium history. Illinois defeated Indiana 46-43 in overtime at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 5, 1996, while they dropped a 31-34 decision at Indiana on Oct. 2, 1999. Ironically, all three of Illinois' overtime games have come against teams from the state of Indiana.

  • Illinois middle linebacker Jerry Schumacher collected 16 tackles on the day, 13 of which were solo stops. The 16 tackles are a season high and just one off the career high 17 he had last season vs. Northwestern.

PURDUE GAME NOTES:

  • John Standeford became the seventh player in Purdue history to have 2,000 career yards receiving with his second catch today, a 32-yarder in the first quarter. He finished the game ranked fifth on the school list with 2148 yards. Standeford now ranks sixth on the career receptions list with 155. He began the day in ninth.

  • Jacque Reeves' interception was the third of his career. Deaunte Ferrell's interception was the first of his career.

  • Brent Grover's fumble recovery for a touchdown was his first career recovery and first career TD. It was the Boilermakers second defensive touchdown of the season and their 17th under head coach Joe Tiller. This was the first time under Tiller that Purdue lost a game in which they scored a defensive touchdown. Before today they were 15-0 in that situation.

  • Illinois' kickoff return for a touchdown was the first against Purdue since Notre Dame had a 96-yarder at Purdue on Dec. 1, 2001.

  • John Standeford had his fifth 100-yard receiving game of 2002 and the seventh of his career (all in the last nine games, dating back to last season).

  • Brandon Jones had career highs of 24 carries and 127 yards rushing while scoring his first career touchdown. His previous highs were 14 carries for 40 yards vs. Minnesota on Sept. 28, 2002. He also had two catches for 35 yards and a touchdown.
