South Bend, Ind. - The Fighting Illini women's swimming and diving team swam better on the final day of a double dual against Notre Dame and Iowa but still fell short by final scores of 247-123 to No. 13 Notre Dame and 209-188 to the Hawkeyes.

"We had better swims and better sessions today which was good because we had dug ourselves into a hole" Illinois head coach Sue Novitsky said. "The evening session was our best of the weekend which will give us something to build on as we begin to work on gaining speed and perfecting racing strategy for the Big Ten meet coming up."

Saturday's highlights included senior All-American Jessica Aveyard, who won both the 200 back and 200 free against both schools in times of 2:01.17 and 1:52.84, respectively. Sophomore Ilkay Dikmen was Illinois' other event winner over both schools when she took the 200 breast in a time of 2:17.93.

Sophomore Crystal McAdam won the 400 IM against Iowa, clocking a season-best time of 4:31.33 while junior Alison Czmarko took the 100 back against the Hawkeyes in 57.55. Illinois' other event winner against Iowa was senior Jen Peters, who took the mile in a time of 17:15.48.

Other wins over Notre Dame included Illinois' 800 freestyle relay team of McAdam, Jen Peters, Kirsten Koepcke and Aveyard which was victorious over the Fighting Irish in a time of 7:42.71.

Illinois is off until next weekend, when the team swims at Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 26th at 1 p.m. central time.
