CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - After opening the Lady Northern Intercollegiate with a school-record round of 296 at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana on Friday, the Illini carded the third-best team total in school history, a 298, today. With a two-round total of 594, the Illini are currently in fourth place.
The 54-hole event, will conclude Sunday, with 18 holes being played at the 5,842 yard, par 72 course. The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Junior Laurin Kanda paced the Illini in the second round. Her even-par 72 brought her tournament total to 147, which currently ties her for fifth place. Renata Young is one stroke behind Kanda. With a total of 148, Young is tied for 12th.
The University of Michigan leads the 14-team event. The Wolverines shot a team total of 581 through two rounds to lead Kent State by nine shots. The Wolverine's Le Anna Wicks leads in the race for individual medalist honors. After shooting rounds of 73 and 71, she holds a one stroke lead over her teammates Misia Lemanski and Cortney Reno entering the final round on Sunday.
