Champaign, Ill. - Junior Justin Olson pitched seven hard fought innings to lead the Illini to a 2-1 victory over the IPFW Mastadons. He scattered three hits, one unearned run, and a season-high 10 strikeouts. Illini ace Andy Dickinson finished the last two innings to record his first career save this afternoon at Illinois Field. The team improves to 10-11 overall while IPFW fell to 6-11-1 on the season.
Senior Rob Fischer was 3-4 while driving in one of the Illini?s two runs on the afternoon. Freshman second baseman Andy Hilligoss drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to cap off the Illini scoring. Third baseman Luke Simmons provided the Illini with their other hit on the day in the first inning. He ended up 1-4 for the game.
Coach Itch Jones was satisfied with his pitcher?s performance. ?Justin did a fine job today giving 7 strong innings,? he said.
Illinois returns to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. against the Southern Illinois Salukis in Carbondale.
