Illini Win Women's Invitational Title

Champaign, IL - The University of Illinois captured the Illinois Women's Invitational title at the Armory Track today in front of a crowd of 687 fans. The Illini won the meet with 160 team points. Kent State placed second with 134.5 points, while Alabama was third with 105.5 points and Iowa State was fourth with 82 points.

The Distance Medley Relay team won in a time of 11:55.66. Freshmen Breanna Wabick (1200m), Allison Williams (400m), junior Jordana Meyer (800m) and sophomore Cecelia Williams (1600m) cruised into the Illinois record books with the fifth-fastest time in school history. In addition to anchoring the relay, Cecelia Williams ran a strong race in the 3,000m run, placing second with a time of 9:58.16.

Freshman Perdita Felicien won the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.28 seconds. In the prelims of the hurdles, Felicien ran 8.22, an NCAA provisionally qualifying time and the second-fastest time in school history behind her own 8.20 that she ran on Jan. 13. The freshman workhorse also placed third in the 60m dash (7.61) and fifth in the 200m dash (25.37).

Sophomore Crystal Riley won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 10 1/2 inches. Riley also placed second in the triple jump, posting a personal best jump of 38 feet, 5 1/2 inches. Junior Camee' Williams also had a successful day in the field, winning the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 7 inches, tying her personal best.

Junior Kate Kennedy was the other Illinois winner on Saturday, winning the 800m run with a time of 2:18.87.

The Illini women are back in action next Saturday, Feb. 3, as the team hosts the Carle/Health Alliance Illini Classic at the Armory Track.
