HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Illinois baseball tram beat #3 Houston 11-9 Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field in Houston, Texas. With the win, the Illini take two of three in the series, and improve their record to 5-1 overall. This is the first time in the Itch Jones era that the Illini have won a series against a team ranked in the top five.

Closer Matt Vorwald held Houston to one run in the final three innings to earn his first save of the season. Pitcher Joe Ziemba (1-0) earned his first career start. D.J. Svihlik went 4-5 and scored three runs in the victory, and Luke Simmons knocked out a home run.
