Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of Illinois baseball team dropped a 4-3 decision to Butler University this afternoon at North Florida. With the loss Illinois drops to 9-5 on the year and 4-4 on the spring trip.

Illinois led early, collecting single runs in both the first, second and fourth innings. With a 3-0 lead, Illini starter Ryan Kvasnicka gave up wingle runs in the fifth and sixth to close the gap to 3-2. Then Butler would take the lead with an unearned run off reliever Andy Dickinson.

Butler third baseman Eric Storey then hit a home run off Dickinson in the top of the eighth to give Butler the lead.

Illinois staged a comeback attempt in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with two outs for Illini second baseman D.J. Svihlik. But the senior was unable to provide his usual late inning heroics, hitting a hard fly ball that went right into the hands of the BU left fielder.

Illinois closes its Spring Trip Saturday with a 10:00 a.m. eastern time date with Notre Dame.
