In the first game of the day, the Chanticleers overcame an early 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.

The Illini started off fast, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. Sophomore Anitra White scored the Illini's first run off of an error by shortstop Amanda DeGrendele. Two batters later Cannizzo struck a single that drove home sophomore Jean Jones.

After closing within one in the third inning, the Chanticleers took the lead in the fourth inning off RBI singles from Tracy Kirsch and Amy Weller.

Illinois (1-1) will next play tomorrow morning in a doubleheader against St. Peter's in Conway, S.C.
