
Illini Softball Adds Calla Roney

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois softball program and head coach Tyra Perry announced that utility player Calla Roney (Strasburg, Ill.) will be joining the Illini for the 2019-20 season.
With the addition of Roney, the class of 2019-20 moves to eight student-athletes, including Jaelyn Vickery (Kankakee, Illinois), Delaney Rummell (Gilberts, Illinois), Taylor Murray (Freeport, Illinois), Kelly Ryono (Huntington Beach, California), Miranda Gallardo (Buena Park, California), Gabi Robles (McHenry, Illinois) and Morgan Scivally (Kankakee, Illinois).
"We are all very excited to welcome Calla to the Illini Softball Family," said Perry. "She has the potential to swing a big bat and will be a solid utility player for us on defense."

Notes: Illinois Coaches Association Class 1A First-Team All-State as a junior and Second-Team as a sophomore … Three-time Effingham Daily News First-Team All-Area … Decatur Herald and Review First-Team All-Area as a junior … Decatur Herald and Review Second-Team All-Area as a sophomore and a senior … Three-time National Trail Conference First-Team honoree, including being voted unanimous Most Valuable Player accolades as a junior … Totaled 98 strikeouts in 64.1 innings pitched with a 1.31 ERA and hit .430 with seven doubles and six home runs as a senior for WSS … Played travel ball with Midland Magic, where she helped lead her team to an ASA 'A' State Championship along with two ASA Runner-Up finishes in five years.
