Tough Day For Illini At Bronco Invitational

The Illinois women's tennis team didn't have a great deal of success on the courts during Day 2 of the Bronco Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Illini managed to win two of their seven singles matches and split their six double encounters.
Senior Cynthya Goulet fell in her Flight A semifinal match, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7), to Eastern Michigan's Victoria Domina, while freshman Momei Qu lost her loser's bracket match to Ball State's Jenny Batty, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (5). In Flight B, sophomore Emily Wang managed a 6-2, 6-0 consolation bracket win over Maelynn Bernosky of Western Michigan, 6-3, 6-0. Pavlina Akritas dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Kara Zeder of Indiana in a Flight C semifinal.
"This wasn't a great day for us, as far as the wins and losses were concerned," said UI Head Coach Sujay Lama. "We are a young team this year, and I did see several encouraging signs of improvement.
The rest of the Illinois matches today came in non-bracketed action.
